Businesses have a responsibility to think and manage their impact. We’re no different. Our challenge is finding the best way forward. As such, we’re taking a pragmatic approach, looking for ways to make better decisions that improve society as a whole and reduce our environmental impact.

More than a policy, we believe it is about making better micro-decisions that build up to a significant difference and embed better long-term behaviours. Our approach to sustainability is best summarised by the actions we have taken already:

Supporting those less fortunate than ourselves

Our social committee raises funds and supports local charities, particularly in SE1, with pro bono marketing support. In addition, our annual miles of smiles event raises thousands for local homeless charities.

Looking out for our team, and their mental health

The marketing agency industry is notorious for having high levels of stress. One of our core values is to “be appreciative,” which engenders a culture of supporting each other in times of need. Alongside this, we have invested in a series of initiatives to educate and support our team. This includes our “Live well at Velo” staff event bringing in expert speakers to provide practical tools and advice to help the team manage stress.

We minimise environmental impact

Following an internal audit, several areas have been identified where our actions can lead to environmental impact, so we’re taking steps to make better decisions:

  • Travel & carbon: Environmentally, travel is kept to a minimum even when partnering with international clients using virtual meetings as a preference.
  • Energy use: Alongside this, we actively look at green credentials for the energy uses of our IT and office, favouring those using renewable energy sources.
  • Waste & Recycling: Recycling is encouraged, and our policy of being a mainly paperless office minimises our waste.

A place where the best talent wants to work and grow

One of our aims as an employer is to help our team grow by providing learning and development opportunities through our VeloCity personal development programs. Our promise to everyone is that through their time at Velo, they will grow, and this can be seen by members of the Velo alumni holding senior roles at large corporations, including LinkedIn and Apple.

Like many, we are at the start of our journey on sustainability. By engendering better behaviour, we hope to make significant differences.
