Case Study

BSS Industrial

How do you take a plant room full of pipes and heating equipment and make it digital?

BSS Industrial, a leading distributor of pipeline and heating solutions in the UK, is part of the Travis Perkins Group, a FTSE 250 company known for its extensive network of builders’ merchants.

As a new venture emerging from BSS Industrial, the platform faced the challenge of establishing a distinct market presence, separating itself from its parent company

BSS needed clear messaging to communicate the platform’s value both internally for cross-selling and externally to drive adoption.  The goal was to validate market demand and build a strong sales pipeline.

Velo were a standout partner to deal with. An immediate desire to understand, help, and support was backed up by a personal service with friendly faces and excellent thinking.

JA, BSS Industrial

Their division, BSS Intelligent Solutions had developed a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to manage mechanical assets in critical environments such as hospitals and schools. The MVP, while functional, needed to prove its commercial viability before a full-scale market launch.

A creative strategy

The strategy focused on creating a distinct and commercially useful market position.

Velo established a unique identity for BSS Intelligent Solutions, differentiating it from BSS Industrial and ensuring clear recognition in the market.

Targeted messaging was developed for internal teams and external audiences, highlighting the platform’s value in proactive asset management. This gave sales and stakeholder teams a clearer way to explain the product and its relevance in critical infrastructure environments.

A go-to-market plan was then designed and implemented to validate the platform’s commercial potential, drive awareness and build pipeline.

A strategic creative

The creative approach positioned BSS Intelligent Solutions as an innovative, forward-thinking solution for modern asset management.

The visual identity was designed to be situation agnostic, allowing it to adapt across different mediums and environments. This reflected the flexibility of the platform itself and its ability to optimise asset management in a range of critical settings.

Bold, minimalist visuals with a monochrome palette emphasised clarity and precision, reinforcing the platform’s focus on delivering actionable insight with simplicity.

Storytelling formats played a key role. Hero videos, pop-up boxes and interactive sales presentations helped demonstrate the platform’s transformative impact on asset management and its role in improving efficiency across critical infrastructure.
